Weekly Workshop, Job Fair Provide Hope For Ex-Offenders

Every day, in cities across America, Goodwill works with convicted criminals who have paid their debt to society and are struggling to rejoin the community. All they want is the chance to find a good job so they can support themselves and their families.

At Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont, we are working with ex-offenders on how to go about re-entering the workforce.

More than 100 people have recently attended a Second Chance Job Readiness workshop at Goodwill. Many of those participants will be attending the fourth annual Mecklenburg Opportunities for Re-entry Network (MORN) Career Fair for ex-offenders on October 13. It is being held at the Grady Cole Center in Charlotte.

At Goodwill’s weekly workshops on Thursdays, ex-offenders learn how to dress and how to speak about their criminal backgrounds to employers as well learn about job leads. It also includes resume development, networking and interview skills.
